OVERVIEW
BioControl Medical is a privately-held medical device company headquartered in Yehud, Israel. The Company is focused on the development of implantable devices for the treatment of physiological and autonomic dysfunctions. Our proprietary technology is based on a unique approach of selective and uni-directional nerve stimulation. The Company's innovative technology is designed to target electrical stimulation at selected nerves or organs in a manner that mimics natural physiological activity and minimizes non-related side effects. The Company’s objective is to help restore functionality and improve the quality of life of patients suffering from autonomic dysfunctions.

BioControl’s flagship product, the miniaturo™, treats various forms of urinary incontinence. In December 2005, the miniaturo received European CE mark approval for Interstitial Cystitis and Overactive Bladder Syndrome. In April 2006, the Company sold its urology line of products to American Medical Systems (Nasdaq:AMMD) together with an exclusive license for use of its electrical stimulation technology for treatment of pelvic floor conditions in the fields of urology and gynecology.

Today, BioControl is focusing its efforts on developing its second line of products, including the CardioFit™ system for the treatment of heart failure. CardioFit treats symptoms associated with heart failure by increasing the parasympathetic nerve system tone using electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve. It is the first device that treats heart conditions via nerve stimulation.

As defined by the Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA), heart failure is a common condition that usually develops slowly as the heart muscle weakens and needs to work harder to keep blood flowing through the body, a reason why sufferers generally complain about exhaustion. Heart failure is the cause of more hospitalizations than all forms of cancer combined. Also according to the HFSA, nearly five million Americans of all ages are affected by heart failure and more than 400,000 new cases of heart failure are diagnosed yearly. And, as reported by the Study Group on Heart Failure Awareness and Perception in Europe, approximately 14 million people in Europe currently suffer from heart failure. This number is forecasted to increase annually by 1 million.

Pre-clinical and early clinical studies show that stimulation of the vagus nerve helps in reducing heart failure symptoms and improving heart performance. CardioFit enables controlled stimulation of the vagus nerve. The system is currently being evaluated in a multi-center clinical trial at various sites throughout Europe.
